Pull door handles on average have a five fold higher level of contamination (Wojgani, H 2012). StepOnIt offers an alternative as a hands-free option. Initial research in January 2020 highlighted in particular that toilet door handles where a concern for users. In a bathroom scenario, metal, plastic and textile surfaces can all serve as vehicles for pathogens (Barker & Bloomfield (2000). Following this, the current pandemic evolved spurring me to complete additional research into this area. The findings unlocked that not only toilet door handles were a key concern however a wave of other locations were identified including public doors, entrance to buildings, office doors, shop doors etc.
